It is particularly inspiring when the site of the project already at the beginning of the design process provides a lot of strategies how the proposal could be developed. This is how it was in case of Cultural Center for the Borough of Bielany. The architecture of this part of Warsaw has got remarkable modernist traditions and encourages to open up a dialogue with it.
The center is 3 storeys high, as most of the public buildings in the neighborhood, which makes them different to residential houses. Another reference the proposal makes to the surroundings, is the use of sandstone brick. Texture and surface manipulation were of great importance in giving character to the building, hence the choice of this material. The way the tiles are laid creates a porosity effect that brings favorable stray light to the multifunctional interiors of the center.
